Following the very tragic recent events in Sri Lanka UKSLTG is working closely with Sri Lankan organisations to provide support those affected by the atrocities. We are actively seeking volunteers who have expertise in working with the psychological impact of trauma who are available to support mental health professionals in Sri Lanka. We are specifically looking for mental health professionals (e.g. Psychiatrist, Psychologists, Nurses) with experience and skills in providing clinical supervision, consultation and service evaluation in the field of trauma.
Our volunteers will not provide direct clinical work, this will be provided by appropriate front line Sri Lankan professionals, our aim is to help with capacity building; helping to support and help develop the skills of the Sri Lankan professionals and organisations in order to increase their skills and confidence and ensure sustainability with the projects we work with.
As we are an organisation run solely by volunteers, we expect volunteers to be self-funding, we will support volunteers with fundraising activities.
If you feel that you have the skills and experience to help and are available to travel to Sri Lanka please do get in touch by contact us at email@example.com with your CV and an expression of interest.
Once an individual has provided UKSTG with an expression of interest and their CV, we will then arrange an interview with two members of the executive committee. This will be an opportunity to consider the potential volunteer’s areas of interest and the skills and expertise they can offer, along with finding out more about the projects and opportunities UKSLTG has to offer.
Once accepted as a volunteer UKSLTG will support the volunteer by helping to arrange a visa and provide support on practicalities, such as booking flights, accommodation, fundraising etc. We will also arrange a UK based clinical supervisor who will support you throughout your volunteering, beginning with your preparations in the UK and throughout your time in Sri Lanka they will provide supervision and support via Skype and email. Whilst in Sri Lanka, the staff at our partner organisation Samutthana will arrange your induction and support you throughout your placement. On your return to the UK your UK supervisor will also be available for debrief and to help you reflect on and share your experiences with UKSTG.
